Winter was coming in but the migration continued undettered.

We read of winter discounts being provided by the boat men taking paying passengers across from mainland Turkey to the great European Union if they dared a storm.

We saw lifejackets, and for the less well off, truck inner tubes on sale in Izmir's high streets.

We saw a stretch rigid inflatable boat as we left Cesme in the early hours of morning and before dawn. It was not there, then a coast guard vessel passed us, then it was there. At least 30 people travelling in 20 knot winds and 2 metre waves into a channel with 1.5 knots of running tide. Only 15 nm all in all but so overloaded.

Then on the coast of Kos we saw the lifejackets. No idea if they were washed up or left there...but so many.
